Ephesians 3:10 This is so that God’s multidimensional wisdom may now be made known through the congregation to the priorities and authorities in the sky realms

Ephesians 3:13 For this reason I ask you not to be discouraged over my afflictions in your behalf, which are your glory.

his plan for the agesAffliction has a way of narrowing vision. When hardship presses in, discouragement rises almost instinctively. It is part of the human condition to feel the weight of suffering and to assume that something has gone wrong, that God has stepped back, or that faith has failed to produce the life hoped for. Yet Paul lifts the curtain on a deeper reality. Beneath the visible world lies another realm, one in which God is actively teaching, revealing, and demonstrating His wisdom. The struggles that seem so personal are also part of a cosmic lesson.

Paul describes “the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms” observing the church. These spiritual beings—both loyal angels and rebellious powers—watch how God’s people respond when faith does not shield them from pain. They see believers confronted with disappointment, loss, and unanswered questions. What they are learning is not about human strength but about God’s wisdom. The endurance of believers becomes a testimony that God’s plan for the ages is trustworthy even when present circumstances appear to contradict it.

This perspective reframes the choices made in suffering. When hardship comes, there is the temptation to retreat from God, to pull back in disappointment, or even to drift into sin as a form of retaliation. Such responses assume that God has failed to uphold His end of the relationship. But Paul invites a different response—courage, confidence, and persistent prayer. To keep storming the gates of heaven when life is unraveling is to declare that God’s character is not defined by present comfort but by eternal purpose.

This is why suffering becomes more than a private struggle. It becomes a stage on which God displays His wisdom to the unseen world. The endurance of believers proclaims that God’s grace is sufficient, that His promises are reliable, and that His plan is unfolding even when the path is steep. The world may see only hardship, but the heavenly realms see a demonstration of divine truth.

Affliction, then, is not meaningless. It is woven into a larger story in which God is revealing His wisdom through the lives of His people. The watching world sees it. The watching powers see it. And in the midst of it, God strengthens those who trust Him, so that their perseverance becomes a living testimony to His eternal purpose.

Lord, strengthen us during these times of affliction, so that we prove your multidimensional wisdom right.
