Psalms 3:4 I cry aloud to the Yahveh, and he responds to me from his holy mountain. Selah.

Sometimes it takes awhile before the LORD responds, but he responds. It is better to be found waiting on the Lord’s responds than to be found worrying about our responses. Unless the Lord tells you something to do in prayer, just wait on him to make the first move.

Psalms 3:3 But you, Yahveh, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

The LORD provides protection (a shield), position (my glory), and encouragement (lifts the head). He does help, and his help is just what the worshippers need.

Psalms 3:2 Many are saying about me, “There is no help for him in God.” Selah

It is the psalmist’s enemies who are boasting that God is not providing the help he needs. That makes it a whole new conflict, because it is not about personal strength or morality. They are questioning God’s existence and compassion. They are saying that God has to put up or else the worshippers should shut up.

Psalms 3:1 Yahveh, see how my enemies have multiplied! There are so many who attack me.

Sometimes when we pray, we are merely whining to God. That is okay; he’s a big God. He can take it. We should not be afraid to point out what we are dealing with. As long as we keep in mind the fact that we are never alone. He is here with us.

Psalms 2:12 Get things in order with the Son or he will be angry and you will be destroyed by your rebellion, because his anger may ignite at any moment. All who take refuge in him are fortunate.

Many leaders today take great pains to get themselves in order with their political backers, but not enough trouble to get themselves squared away with Jesus. He is the friend we really need in a crisis.
The problem is often that we fail to believe that Jesus is powerful enough to destroy those who ignore him. He is.

Psalms 2:11 Serve Yahveh with fear and rejoice as you tremble.
The psalmist is still instructing the leaders of the world to show discernment by admitting that God is sovereign over them and their nations. That nation is blessed when its leaders recognize that God is still in control. The leaders who do submit can rejoice as they tremble because God will not let them fail ultimately.

Psalms 2:10 Kings should show discernment now; judges of the land should take warning.
It should be that way, but seldom is. Instead, the leaders keep making the same mistakes, and history keeps recording those same mistakes. Unless our plans coincide with God’s plans, we plan in vain. The Bible serves as a guide for our personal decision making, but can also guide families and nations.

Psalms 2:9 “You will break them with an iron scepter; you will smash them like pottery.”
This verse describes the turmoil caused when a culture comes in contact with the gospel. The authority and wisdom of God’s word turns societies inside out, exposing the godless structures, and redeeming people from their bondage. The results are messy at first. It’s like someone has taken an iron rod to pottery. But the end result is glorious.

Psalms 2:8  “Ask of me, and I will give nations as your inheritance and ends of the earth as your possession.
The Father gives the Son the right to ask for nations and people from all continents and cultures. How could he promise such a thing is God has surrendered his sovereignty to human “free will”? I struggle with this question. For me, it is much more of a comfort to believe that the reason I am a Christian is that Jesus asked, and the Father gave me into his hand. I don’t want my salvation to depend on my faithfulness. I want it to depend on his.

Psalms 2:7 I am announcing the LORD’s decree. He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.
A decree from God is a decision made in eternity past which has permanent ramifications. When the first person of the divine trinity chose to relate to the second as Father to Son, it changed our destiny. It meant that the kings of the land will not succeed in their rebellion. The Son will rule ultimately. That is good news for all of us who choose to serve Jesus.
