John 15:26-27
Joh 15:26 “When the Discipler comes, the one I will send to you from the Father– the True Spirit who proceeds from the Father– he will testify about me.
Joh 15:27 You also will testify, because you have been with me from the first.
Powerful partner in evangelism
Jesus identifies two testifiers in this passage, and together they form a unified witness to the truth of the gospel.
The first is the Discipler—the Holy Spirit. His testimony is not vague or mystical. It comes through concrete means. He testifies through the written word, the Scriptures He inspires, preserving the truth of Christ for every generation. He also testifies through His works, the miracles He performs—whether in the apostolic era or in the ongoing, often quiet, demonstrations of God’s power in the world today. His witness is authoritative, supernatural, and enduring.
The second testifier is the community of disciples. Jesus says, “You also testify,” linking their witness directly to their relationship with Him. Their testimony is not theoretical. It arises from what they have seen, heard, and experienced in His presence. They speak of what life with Christ has revealed—His character, His mercy, His power, His truth. Their witness is relational, experiential, and personal.
These two testimonies are not independent streams. They converge. The disciples testify out of their lived relationship with Christ, and the Spirit testifies with divine authority, confirming their message. The Spirit’s witness strengthens the disciples’ witness; the disciples’ witness displays the Spirit’s work. Together they form a powerful partnership in the mission of God.
This dynamic continues today. Every follower of Christ bears witness simply by walking with Him—discovering His faithfulness, learning His ways, and experiencing His grace. That lived testimony is then reinforced by the Spirit’s ongoing work: the Scriptures He inspired, the transformation He produces, and the miracles—large and small—that He still performs. Evangelism is never a solitary effort. It is always a collaboration between human obedience and divine power.
Lord, thank you for our powerful partner in evangelism – your Spirit among us.
