his sacred promise
Psalm 105:39-42 (JDV)
Psalm 105:39 He spread a cloud as a covering and gave a fire to light up the night.
Psalm 105:40 They asked, and he brought quail and satisfied them with bread from the sky.
Psalm 105:41 He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the open country.
Psalm 105:42 Yes, he remembered his sacred promise to Abraham his servant.
When this poet prayed, he thought about how God kept his sacred promise to his people by providing protection, guidance, and food and water.
God made a sacred promise to you and me, too. His name is Jesus. God made that promise in the beginning. When the time was right, his promise was fulfilled. The Word became flesh and lived among us. The seed of the woman went to the cross to die for our sins. The king will return to take up his eternal throne. All things will be made new because our God keeps his promises.
But only the descendants of Abraham participated in the Exodus. Only those who are in Christ will make it to the eternal life he promised. God will keep his promise. When Christ returns, will it be as your king, or as your executioner?
