Psalm 32:8-9
Psalm 32:8 I will give you insight and show you the road to go on; with my eye on you, I will consult with you.
Psalm 32:9 Do not be like a horse or mule, without perception, that must be controlled with bit and bridle or else it will not come near you.
he wants to show us the road
The context of this bit of assurance is a psalm about God’s forgiveness. The Lord assures us that he is not far off in the distance. He is right here with us. He does not want to take us over so that we have no control over what we do. For that reason, he is always ready to consult with us.
What does this have to do with God’s forgiveness? Well – despite the saying to the contrary — it is always better to seek permission rather than do something that requires forgiveness. He wants to show us the road that enables us to learn his way without being corrected by suffering.
Lord, give us the wisdom to stop acting like mules, and learn your road.
