Psalm 32:1-2
Psalm 32:11 How fortunate is the one whose crime is forgiven, whose mistake2 is covered!
Psalm 32:2 How fortunate is a person whom Yahveh does not charge with violation and in whose breath is no deceit!
the heavy lifting
When we were on the Appalachian Trail last year, I carried most of our weight because my back was stronger. Fortunately I had a well-made backpack, and a stronger back, so the weight was not a major obstacle for me. It was my contribution to the hike.
What is being celebrated here is neither the size of one’s past sin nor the size of one’s present personal goodness. What matters is the sovereign choice of a loving God to forgive. He can lift the largest weight, and cover the worst mistake. He is not reluctant to forgive: it’s what he does.
Lord, we give our past to you, because we want to be free. Thank you for doing the heavy lifting.
