John 16:12-15
Joh 16:12 “I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.
Joh 16:13 When the True Spirit comes, he will guide you into all the truth. Because he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.
Joh 16:14 He will glorify me because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Joh 16:15 Everything the Father has is mine. This is why I told you that he takes from what is mine and will declare it to you.
Many mountains more
A map of the Appalachian Trail hanging nearby becomes a quiet reminder of a long journey already taken and a longer one still ahead. More than a thousand miles behind, many mountains climbed, many valleys crossed, many days of endurance and discovery. Yet the trail stretches on, inviting further steps, further lessons, further strength. That unfinished path becomes a fitting picture of the way Jesus revealed truth during His earthly ministry. He unveiled towering peaks of revelation—truths about the Father, the kingdom, the nature of discipleship, the cost of following Him, and the hope of eternal life. Those truths stand like mountains that shape the landscape of faith.
But His teaching, profound as it was, did not exhaust the fullness of what God intended to reveal. Jesus Himself said that more truth remained—truth the disciples were not yet ready to bear. Their understanding needed time, growth, and the transforming presence of the Spirit. So Jesus returned to the Father and sent the True Spirit, the Discipler, to guide His followers into the remaining mountains of truth. The Spirit did not bring a different message but unfolded the depths of the message Jesus had already begun.
The completion of the New Testament stands as one of the Spirit’s great works. Through apostles and prophets, the Spirit carried forward the teaching ministry of Jesus, ensuring that the church received the full counsel of God in written form. Every letter, every gospel, every prophetic vision bears the imprint of the Spirit’s guidance. The Scriptures themselves are part of the ongoing discipling work that Jesus promised.
Yet the Spirit’s ministry does not end with the written word. The same Spirit who inspired Scripture also guides believers in the daily decisions, confusions, and crossroads of life. When prayers rise for direction, wisdom, or clarity, the Spirit responds within the boundaries of God’s revealed truth. Guidance is not an occasional favor but part of His ongoing mission—shaping hearts, illuminating Scripture, and leading believers along the path of Christlikeness.
Just as the Appalachian Trail continues beyond the miles already walked, the Spirit continues to lead into truth beyond what has already been learned. The journey is long, but the Guide is faithful.
Lord, thank you for the truth, and for the One who leads into it with patience and power.
