Hos 12:14 Ephraim has bitterly irritated him; so his Lord will leave his death sentence on him and will repay him because his disgrace.
Hos 13:1 When Ephraim spoke, there was terror; he had been exalted in Israel, but he became guilty by following Baal and died.
Hos 13:2 And now they sin more and more, and make for themselves metal images, idols skillfully made of their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of them, “They offer human sacrifices and kiss calves!”
Hos 13:3 for this reason they will be like the morning dew or like the spray that goes early away, like the chaff that blows from the threshing floor or like smoke from a window.
Hosea describes Ephraim as the walking dead: spiritually dead because of rebellion, and awaiting the punishment for their sins. Morning dew, chaff, and smoke all have this in common. They only last a short time before they are gone forever.
Friend, if you are not in Christ, that is you. The Lord offers you forgiveness and restoration now, but that offer is only for now. Come to the grace of God while he still offers it. Later may be too late.
LORD, rescue more today from the consequences of their own rebellion.
