his warning a rescue
Ezekiel 33:7-9 (JDV)
Ezekiel 33:7 “As for you, son of Adam, I have made you a guard for the house of Israel. When you hear a word from my mouth, give them a warning from me.
Ezekiel 33:8 If I say to the guilty, ‘Guilty one, you will surely die,’ but you do not speak out to warn him about his way, that guilty person will die for his violation, yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.
Ezekiel 33:9 But if you warn a guilty person to turn from his way and he doesn’t turn from it, he will die for his violation, but you will have rescued your throat.
his warning a rescue
Ezekiel is charged to give a warning from God. Whether or not the guilty heed that warning is up to them. But giving the warning itself is a means of rescue for the prophet.
Likewise, there will be many (hopefully) who will hear our proclamations of the gospel. Whether they turn from their sin and toward God and his truth is up to each of them individually. But our faithful obedience in sharing the gospel will rescue us from being accomplices in their guilt.
