we were born there
Psalm 87:4-7 (JDV)
Psalm 87:4 “I will make a record of those who know me: Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, and Cush – each one was born there.”
Psalm 87:5 And it will be said of Zion, “This one and that one were born in her.” The Most High himself will establish her.
Psalm 87:6 When he registers the peoples, Yahveh will record, “This one was born there.”Selah
Psalm 87:7 Singers and dancers alike will say, “My whole source of joy is in you.”
we were born there
Jerusalem is celebrated because of its glorious future. It will some day be said that people from all the nations will be “born there.” The psalm speaks in faith of a time when Jerusalem is seen as the center of what God is doing in the world, and that even its present Gentile enemies will proudly call it home.
The New Testament explains how this will happen. Believers will be grafted into the olive tree of Israel (Romans 11).
Thank you, LORD, for bringing us home to you.
