1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (JDV)
1 Thessalonians 5:12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to give recognition to those who are working among you and leading you in the Lord and admonishing you,
1 Thessalonians 5:13 and to regard them very highly in care because of their achievement. Be at peace among yourselves.

Paul affirms the priesthood of all believers, yet he never pretends that the church functions without those whom God has gifted for particular forms of leadership. These leaders are not elevated above the congregation as a separate class, nor are they spiritual elites. They work among the believers, shoulder to shoulder, as fellow members of the body. But God has entrusted them with specific responsibilities—guiding, teaching, admonishing, and helping the congregation stay faithful to its calling.
Their work is often quiet, often costly, and often misunderstood. They carry burdens others do not see. They step into difficult conversations. They guard the flock from error. They encourage the fainthearted, strengthen the weak, and warn the unruly. They labor for the spiritual health of the whole congregation.
Because of this, Paul urges believers to recognize their labor and to regard them highly in love. Not because of personality, charisma, or position, but because of the work they are accomplishing—work that strengthens the church, protects its unity, and advances its mission.
Healthy congregations do not take their leaders for granted. They honor them, pray for them, support them, and treat them with the care that their calling deserves.
Lord, thank you for our special ministry leaders.
