a blessed walk

cornucopiaNumbers 6

The Aaronic blessing comes right on the heels of the description of the Nazarite vow.  This does not mean that only Nazarites are to be blessed.  It means that the Nazarite vow can be taken because God intends to bless his people so well that they will be able to make such a vow.  In the wilderness, grapes were not that plentiful.  But there will be plenty of grapes in  the promised land where the Israelites are heading.

After they get there, and experience the blessing of God, how can they show gratitude for God himself — not just the blessings?  The Nazarite vow is one of the ways.  Intentionally doing without some of the particular blessings God has given them shows that they understand that the greatest blessing is the presence of God himself.

LORD, we vow to look beyond the blessings to the One who Blesses.
