Leviticus 19:29-31
Lev 19:29 “Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, or else the land will fall into prostitution and the land will become full of immorality.
Lev 19:30 You will keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am Yahveh.
Lev 19:31 “Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves contaminated by them: I am Yahveh your God.
highest motivation
If self is your highest motivation, then you might just see all others around you (even your children) as a means to your own happiness. If so, you can see the logic in selling your daughter into prostitution.
If self is your highest motivation, then you might just see your time as more important than your obedience. If so, you will question anyone who dares to tell you how to spend that time, even if it is advice to rest.
If self is your highest motivation, you might just look for ways to get around the laws that life brings us all. If so, you may seek certainty, even in places where you should not go.
If God is your highest motivation, you will seek his will for your family, your time, and your loyalty. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.
LORD, we commit ourselves to seeking your will above our own.
