Genesis 2:21 – 3:8
21 Then the LORD God threw down this Adam into a deep sleep, and while he slept took one of his ribs and shut up its place with flesh.
22 And he made into a woman the rib that the LORD God had taken from this Adam and brought her to this Adam.
23 Then this Adam said, “This finally is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called a woman, because she was taken out of a man.”
24 Because of this a man will leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his woman, and they will become as one flesh.
25 And the man and his woman were both naked and were not ashamed.
3:1 Now the snake was more clever than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the snake, “We are allowed to eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden,
3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you shall not touch it, or you will die.'”
4 But the serpent said to the woman, “dying, you shall not die.
5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a pleasant to look at, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her man who was with her, and he ate.
7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves skirts.
8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his woman hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

What we want
Adam’s desire was to have a woman at his side. Eve’s desire was to have the wisdom the snake tempted her with. Adam wanted the same thing, so ate the forbidden fruit as well. God gave us what we want. He has a plan to undo the consequences of that choice – among them, self-covering and the hiding from him.
Loving God, forgive us for wanting the wrong things. Teach us to enjoy your paradise.
