in retrospect: no empty word

mosesatneboDeuteronomy 31:30-32:47

Moses’ retirement speech was not a series of platitudes and celebration of the past.  He shared a warning for the generations that followed.  God is not like the gods of the nations that the Israelites are about to conquer.  God is perfection and justice.  He is a father who loves and disciplines his children.  If they rebel, the only thing that will keep them from being destroyed is the fact that their enemies would think they did it.  Moses’ warning is no empty word.  History will show that the nation will many times come to the brink of destruction, only to be miraculously preserved.  God still has a plan for his people.

LORD, forgive us for ignoring the warnings in your word. They are not empty.
