Exodus: distinction

redsea870Exodus 8:20-9:12

The second cycle of plagues highlights the distinction between Egypt as a whole, and Goshen, where the Israelites are living. For the purpose of this contest, God prevents his judgments from doing major harm to the Israelites. This is not always the case. Sometimes we will suffer the same consequences as our unbelieving neighbors. This does not mean we are being punished. We live in a fallen world, so we participate in that fallen-ness.

LORD, when we suffer, help us to realize that you still love us, and make a distinction between us and those who are unsaved.
