the age of the Holy Spirit

HolySpirit_BibleLuke 17:11-37.   Jesus heals ten lepers, and only one comes back to give thanks.  Jesus takes note that this man is not a Jew, but a foreigner – a Samaritan.  His point is that the Jews should have recognized that the kingdom of God is presently in their midst (21).  But they are missing it.  Expecting an age of cataclysmic signs, they are missing the age of the Holy Spirit.  As in the days of Noah before the earth’s great flood – or the days of Lot before the destruction of Sodom by fire – it is business as usual.  Jesus was not denying that the day of his second coming would be cataclysmic.  He was lamenting the fact that the people who were asking for such a sign were not prepared for the judgment it will bring.

LORD, the sign we seek is for your Holy Spirit to work in our lives today, bringing us healing, release from bondage, and holiness.
