disciples: fishers of men

PineappleGangCod10Mark 1.  Jesus chose four fishermen to be his disciples.  He told them to follow him, and he promised to make them fishers of men.  He was planning a great catch, and he invited these men to assist in bringing in the haul.

  1. John the Baptist envisioned this great catch.  He watched as the Holy Spirit brought people from “all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem” (5) to hear him speak of the coming Messiah.
  2. After John’s arrest, Jesus set his fishing boat in the waters of Capernaum.  Soon people were coming to him from “everywhere throughout all the region of Galilee” (28).

Being a part of the great catch only takes one thing: being willing to follow Jesus.

LORD, make us fishers of men.  We don’t want to miss the boat.
