1 Corinthians 7. In a time of increased distress, Paul’s advice to the Corinthians is meant to give them the most happiness. He challenges them to consider the state they are in now. Some are married, some are not. Some are slaves, some are free. Some have converted to the Jewish traditions, some have not. His advice is this: turn over who you are now completely to the Lord. Let Christ rule in your marriage. Let Christ rule in your singleness. Give glory to Christ as a slave. Give glory to Christ as a free person. It is better not to sidetrack your devotion with a new relationship, but if you must get married, do it with the Lord’s blessing. If your partner dies, you are free to marry again — as long as that relationship is centered on the Lord as well.
LORD, we surrender who we are right now to you. Reign over our today.
