1 Corinthians 6. Paul addresses two incidents in which people within the church in Corinth are acting in an incongruous manner. Their actions are inconsistent with what Jesus did for them. He justified them by his substitutionary death. He washed and sanctified them by his Holy Spirit. And yet they demonstrate worldliness by going to court with one another. Their actions are incongruous with their claim to inherit the kingdom of God. They demonstrate that they are still in Satan’s kingdom by their toleration of sexual immorality, instead of fleeing from it. Paul says: “Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God ” (9-10).
LORD, change us into people who reflect what you have done for us. May our lives match the destiny you promised us.
