1 Corinthians 5. The Corinthians had been guilty of judging (criticizing) Paul and the others in his band. It was as if they had pointed out a speck in the eyes of the missionaries, but had failed to notice the log in their own eyes (Matt. 7:3). They had tolerated sexual immorality (incest) within their own members. Paul urges them to purge the evil person from among them (13). If they had not done it, it would be like celebrating the Passover with leaven in the bread, defiling it. The church must be holy, or the world will not know what holiness is.
LORD, give us the courage to present your church in all her purity, without compromise.
