Romans 13. Believers have been set free from the debt to sin and are now free to live in the righteousness given to us through the grace and mercy of God. Our change in status before God includes a new set of obligations. We are not free to defy and rebel against governing authorities, but should give them the respect, honor, and taxes that we owe them (1-7). We are not free to defy God’s moral law that teaches us to love our neighbors, but should fulfill that law (8-10). We are not free to sleep, get drunk, and indulge in the darkness of selfishness, but should put on Christ as the armor of light and walk properly as in the daytime (11-14). We worship the LORD by praising him for paying the debt we could not pay. We also worship by paying the debts he calls us to pay.
LORD, we commit ourselves to those obligations that are part of our new identity in your sight.
