Exodus 8:20-9:12. The Hebrews were regarded as a lower race by the Egyptians. They had been granted residence in the land because of Joseph, but were segregated to the land of Goshen. Their peculiar practice of having no visible gods must have suggested irreverence to the mighty gods. Their sacrifices were seen as an abomination (8:26). The plagues in today’s text all occurred outside of Goshen only. The LORD was making a distinction between the two peoples. His purpose was that the Egyptians may know that he is the LORD. He calls his people today to bring that news to all nations.
LORD, send us to the nations that need to know that you are the LORD.
